ABOUT US
The Newburyport Youth Lacrosse Association (NYLA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 to provide the opportunity for boys and girls from 1st to 8th grade to play the fastest growing sport in America.
Both our boys and girls teams participate in the Mass Youth Lacrosse (MYL) League. All teams play a full season schedule beginning in April and ending in June. Each team will typically have 2 practices per week and games are held on Sundays. Both the boys and girls leagues do not keep standings, there are no championships or playoffs and all players are offered equal playing time as often as possible. While winning is not the primary goal, the competition among players and teams remains strong. Many of the teams we play each year have also experienced tremendous growth in lacrosse and the level of play across all teams has elevated.
Our Tots Program includes our youngest players and is led by experienced coaches and high school players. Tots play on Sunday mornings beginning in April. Many of our players begin with Tots and remain part of NYLA until high school.
Newburyport Youth Lacrosse mandates coaches training which includes fundamentals of teaching lacrosse, positive coaching as well as injury recognition and emergency action. Coaches are certified through US Lacrosse or the MYL and participate in a NYLA Coaches Development program.
Newburyport Youth Lacrosse is managed by a Board of Directors committed to providing a positive experience for youth lacrosse players.
